Master of Science
Information Systems (Wirtschaftsinformatik)
The master's program in information systems combines the traditional
strengths of an
education in information systems at the Münster School of Business and
Economics – integrating computer science, statistics, business
administration, and traditional IS
– with an internationally focused research environment facilitated by
the European Research Center for Information Systems (ERCIS).
This program enables its graduates to assess and properly configure sophisticated information technology for use in companies and administrative departments. The program of study trains students for a career in research or teaching in the area of information systems and facilitates entry into a corresponding doctoral program. Moreover, our IS program prepares students for future careers in fields such as management consulting and software production and usage, which value an especially comprehensive education. The purpose of the course of study is, therefore, to provide students with the requisite in-depth scientific knowledge, skills, and competencies in the abovementioned areas.
Goals of the Master Program
The MSc in Information Systems provides a balanced program of formal engineering and managerial methods, techniques, and approaches. The program is fuelled by ongoing research at ERCIS and prepares students for research positions in industry or academia, as well as for managerial and consulting positions. Applied research fosters problem-solving competencies enabling students to translate abstract concepts into action. The program thus provides an appropriate synthesis between theory and practice.
The program is ideal for people who have a bachelor's degree in information systems or business computing. However, we also try to accommodate students from computer science, management, business engineering, or economics with an information systems minor who are attracted to the program. If you have the desire and the talent to combine a formal study of information systems (software engineering, modelling, statistics, etc.) with a managerial perspective (process, network, or information management) our MSc in Information Systems could be for you.
